I question anyone who actually spent the time designing the trap in your typical movie fashion and pulled it off almost believably enough :D
Because it is the real world, not fiction. There should have been a a briefcase instead of a treasure chest ;)

Room must have been sealed in with the wax or something, powder was still dry. (Caveat, I'm not really knowledgeable about gunpowder and explosives,just guesstimating)

yeah, there was a lot to consider technically speaking, but in the end I decided to go with "more fun" and less science. I mean, walking into a burning building isn't like what you see on tv either. it's completely black, and smoke inhalation would render you unconscious immediately, but where's the fun in that?
