Turns out the treasure chest is full bottles and clothes. Really. I feel like the captains went down with their gold. Loved it too much.

technically speaking, Pirates didn't actually bury treasure, aside from sinking ships to the ocean floor. One Pirate said he buried treasure when he was bartering for his life after being caught, and no one ever found it. But what fun is that!
